a program of California School Fitness,

a 501(c)3 non-profit organization

Heartlight is a program of CALIFORNIA SCHOOL FITNESS, a non-profit 501 c (3) organization that offers fitness programs for children.  With conclusive research showing increasing obesity rates and declining fitness levels of children, there is a need for a fitness program designed to appeal to children of every level of fitness and athletic ability.  This includes top athletes and also those children who are not attracted to sports where they must compete with their peers.

Mari Jarvis, MA founded Heartlight in 1985.  Mari holds a master's degree in Health Education and a Teaching Credential in Health Science.
Heartlight has been offering classes for 25 years and holds classes in over 100 schools in 14 cities across the U.S. Six thousand children enroll in Heartlight classes annually.

Children in the Heartlight program learn jazz, hip hop, and aerobic dance steps, improve listening skills, learn their directions right and left and improve their ability to follow oral instruction.  Research shows that improving gross motor function helps a child with such intellectual pursuits as reading and writing.

Our mission is to teach children that exercise is fun. Our motto is "fitness for the fun of it.TM"

Another fun component of our classes is the performance we put on each session.  We perform at school PTA meetings and other school functions and assemblies, mega performances at impressive venues in city parks, football Half-time shows at NFL stadiums and performances at county fairs and parades.

Heartlight works in partnership with school districts and other community organizations. Heartlight staff volunteer hundreds of hours  assisting with state mandated fitness testing and other fitness events in the schools
